Windsurf Is Now Devin Desktop: What Changed for Teams (2026)
windsurf.com returns a permanent redirect to devin.ai/desktop. What the Cognition rebrand means if you are evaluating, already paying, or writing it into a procurement doc.
DevTools Review
If Windsurf is on your shortlist, the first thing to know is that it is not called Windsurf any more, and the second is that its price went up.
The rebrand, verified
windsurf.com returns an HTTP 308 Permanent Redirect to
devin.ai/desktop. Not a 302, not a landing page with a notice — a permanent
redirect to a different host. That is the strongest signal a product has moved
rather than merely been re-skinned.

Cognition — the company behind the Devin agent — acquired Windsurf and folded it in as the desktop product. The editor still exists and Cascade still works. What changed is whose roadmap it sits on and whose invoice it appears on.
Why this matters more than a name change
For procurement. A contract, a security review, or a vendor-risk entry that says “Windsurf” now names a product that redirects elsewhere. If you are partway through a review, the legal entity and the data-processing terms are Cognition’s, not Windsurf’s. Worth checking before signing rather than after.
For evaluation. Reviews written before the acquisition describe a company that no longer independently exists. Feature roadmaps, support expectations and pricing all now flow from Cognition’s priorities, and Devin — an autonomous agent — is the flagship, with the desktop editor alongside it.
For your existing team. Nothing breaks. But if you standardised on Windsurf partly because it was the cheaper alternative to Cursor, that reason has expired.
The pricing changed, and by more than inflation
Windsurf Pro was $15/month. Devin Desktop Pro is $20/month — the same price as Cursor Pro.
That matters because the old case for Windsurf was frequently “80–90% of Cursor at 75% of the price”. At parity, that argument disappears and the decision becomes purely about the product: Cascade’s agentic workflow against Cursor’s more mature multi-file editing and its bring-your-own-key option.
Teams pricing is per developer seat plus a fixed monthly platform fee, which is unusual in this category — most competitors bill per seat only. On a small team that fixed component is a meaningful share of the bill: it is spread over five seats the same way it is spread over fifty.
Verify the figures before you buy. We checked devin.ai/pricing on 18 August 2026, but the site rate-limits automated requests and we could not re-confirm on the same day. Every other number on this page was verified twice; these were not. Ask Cognition for the Teams price and the platform fee in writing, and take our figures as a prompt to ask rather than as a quote.

Against Cursor — same Pro price, so pick on product. Cursor’s Composer is more mature for multi-file work; Cascade is the stronger agentic loop. Cursor is itself mid-acquisition by SpaceX, so neither option is on stable corporate ground this year.
Against Copilot Business ($19/seat) — Copilot is cheaper per seat, has no platform fee, and runs in every major IDE rather than requiring your team to adopt a specific editor. If predictable billing matters more than the agent, that is the safer team purchase.
Heads up:Windsurf is now Devin Desktop. windsurf.com returns a permanent redirect to devin.ai/desktop after Cognition acquired it, so a tool you evaluate under one name is billed and supported under another. Source.
Try Devin Desktop FreeWhat to do
Evaluating? Evaluate it as Devin Desktop and read Cognition’s docs, not Windsurf-era reviews. Search results and comparison articles are still full of the old name and the old $15 price.
Already paying? Check what your renewal quotes. A rebrand is a common moment for terms to change, and your invoice now comes from a different company.
Writing it into a document? Use “Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf)” so the next person to read it can find the vendor.
