What changed,
and when we checked

AI coding tools reprice and rebrand faster than reviews get updated. We re-check all 11 against the vendors' own pages and record what moved — including the months when nothing did.

August 2026

4 changes
  1. Capability All 11 tools

Verified 2 previously unconfirmed capabilities: Claude Code has team admin & SSO (Enterprise tier), Cody is no longer open source (its GitHub repo went private). 7 remain unverified.

  2. Capability All 11 tools

Expanded what we track from 8 capability dimensions to 15, adding JetBrains support, self-hosting, open-source status, MCP support and team admin/SSO. Anything we could not confirm is marked unverified rather than guessed at.

  3. Re-verified All 11 tools

All 11 tools re-checked against vendor pricing pages. No prices moved. Publisher affiliate status re-checked at the same time: still none active.

  4. Rename Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

Renamed to Devin Desktop following Cognition's acquisition. Pricing unchanged; we still file it under Windsurf, the more-searched name.

How this tracker works

Only what we checked

Every entry is something we verified against the vendor's own page, dated the day we saw it. We don't republish announcements we didn't witness, and we don't backfill from vendor changelogs to look busier.

Nothing is a result

A month where all 11 held steady gets recorded as exactly that. A tracker that only speaks up when something happened can't tell you the difference between a quiet market and an abandoned page.

Where it starts

The record opens in July 2026, not at launch. Our first days of data include us correcting our own starting figures, and publishing those as market movement would be inventing a story. More on how we work.

Get told when a price changes

We re-check what all 11 tools cost against each vendor's own pricing page. When something moves — a price, a free tier, a limit — you get an email. When nothing moves, you get nothing.
