What changed,
and when we checked

AI coding tools reprice and rebrand faster than reviews get updated. We re-check all 12 against the vendors' own pages and record what moved — including the months when nothing did.

November 2026

2 changes
  1. Plans Claude Code

The $200/mo tier previously tracked as "Max (20x)" is now explicitly named Ultra on claude.com/pricing, with usage described as 10x Pro per week (not 20x) and no 5-hour cap for verified accounts. Max ($100/mo) stays 5x Pro usage. Price unchanged for both tiers.

  2. Re-verified All 12 tools

All 12 tracked tools re-checked against vendor pricing pages (Codex, added 2026-10-26, included for the first time). One tier rename found (Claude Code's $200/mo tier is now called Ultra, not Max 20x). Copilot's Business/Enterprise seat prices and JetBrains AI's pricing page could not be reconfirmed this cycle — their priceVerifiedAt dates were left unchanged rather than bumped without a check.

October 2026

8 changes
  1. Plans GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot now bills in AI credits (1 credit = $0.01 of model usage, per token) instead of premium requests, effective 1 June 2026. Pro $10 includes 1,500 credits, Pro+ $39 includes 7,000, Max $100 includes 20,000; Business $19/user and Enterprise $39/user get pooled credits. Code completion stays unlimited on paid plans. Headline prices unchanged.

  2. Plans JetBrains AI

Restructured again, one month after the September change. New AI Free tier (unlimited completion, 3 credits/mo); AI Pro $10/mo (10 credits) and AI Ultimate $30/mo (35 credits). The $20 and $60 commercial seats are gone: organisations now buy shared credits at API price plus optional Air Governance (Basic free, Business $20/seat/mo, Enterprise custom). Verified on jetbrains.com/store/ai/.

  3. Re-verified All 12 tools

All 11 tools re-verified against their vendors' own pages on 18–19 October — the first complete cycle since September. Five moved (Cursor, Copilot, JetBrains AI, Devin/Windsurf, Cline), one left the market (Tabnine), and Amazon Q's closure dates (no new signups since 15 May 2026, end of support 30 April 2027) were unchanged.

  4. Plans Cursor ↑ 50%

The $20 Pro plan is gone. Cursor's plans are now Free, Plus ($8/mo, Grok models only), Premium ($30/mo, the tier that can use Claude and GPT models, billed separately at API price), Super ($100), Ultra ($200) and Teams from $30/user. The cheapest plan with third-party frontier models went from $20 to $30.

  5. Plans Tabnine

No longer sold to new customers. tabnine.com now redirects to tricentis.com following Tricentis's acquisition (closed 30 July 2026); there is no public pricing or self-serve signup. Marked unavailable across the site.

  6. Price Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

Devin (formerly Windsurf) Teams is now $80/month base plus $40 per seat. Pro stays $20/mo and Max $200/mo. The product now lives at devin.ai.

  7. Plans Cline

Cline added an Enterprise tier with custom pricing alongside the free open-source extension.

  8. Re-verified All 12 tools

2 of 11 tools re-checked this cycle — GitHub Copilot and Claude Code — both confirmed unchanged against their own pricing pages (github.com/features/copilot/plans and claude.com/pricing). The other 9 vendor pricing pages (Cursor, Windsurf/Devin Desktop, Tabnine, Aider, Cline, Amazon Q, Cody, JetBrains AI, Zed) were unreachable from this automation's network this month; their priceVerifiedAt dates are unchanged pending a working check.

September 2026

6 changes
  1. Capability All 12 tools

Verified 2 previously unconfirmed compare-matrix capabilities: Aider MCP support (false — no client in its shipped source) and Amazon Q Developer MCP support (true — shipped in its open-source CLI). 5 remain unverified: Windsurf/JetBrains, Tabnine/MCP, Cody/MCP, JetBrains AI self-hosting, JetBrains AI/MCP — their vendor docs were unreachable from this environment and no open-source artifact could stand in for them.

  2. Plans JetBrains AI

Restructured into named AI tiers. The flat Personal $10 / Commercial $20 licence split is gone, replaced by AI Pro (personal $10/mo, commercial $20/user/mo) and AI Ultimate (personal $30/mo, commercial $60/user/mo). Verified against the store data on jetbrains.com/ai-ides/buy/ (codes AIP, AIPU).

  3. Price Cody

Sourcegraph now publishes a contract floor where it previously showed no number: the Enterprise plan reads "Starting at $16K" minimum. Still enterprise-only — no individual tier exists at any price.

  4. Re-verified All 12 tools

Re-verified the four tools carrying unresolved high-severity freshness findings — JetBrains AI, Cursor, Cody and Amazon Q — against each vendor's own pages. Two moved (JetBrains restructured its tiers, Sourcegraph published a price floor); Cursor's tiers and Amazon Q's end-of-support dates were unchanged.

  5. Capability Cline

Plan Mode's edit restriction stopped holding on 4.1.x. Users report Cline editing files while still in Plan Mode, without switching to Act Mode or asking (issue #13140, open since 10 Aug, 12 comments); 4.1.x also removed the flag that forbade writing in Plan Mode (#13107, closed 19 Aug without a fix confirmed in-thread). Our own testing predates 4.1.x, so this is reported from the tracker, not re-tested by us.

  6. Re-verified All 12 tools

3 of 11 tools re-checked this cycle — GitHub Copilot, Aider and Cline — all unchanged. The other 8 vendor pricing pages (Cursor, Windsurf/Devin Desktop, Zed, Tabnine, Claude Code, Amazon Q, Cody, JetBrains AI) were unreachable from this automation's network this month; their priceVerifiedAt dates are unchanged pending a working check.

August 2026

4 changes
  1. Capability All 12 tools

Verified 2 previously unconfirmed capabilities: Claude Code has team admin & SSO (Enterprise tier), Cody is no longer open source (its GitHub repo went private). 7 remain unverified.

  2. Capability All 12 tools

Expanded what we track from 8 capability dimensions to 15, adding JetBrains support, self-hosting, open-source status, MCP support and team admin/SSO. Anything we could not confirm is marked unverified rather than guessed at.

  3. Re-verified All 12 tools

All 11 tools re-checked against vendor pricing pages. No prices moved. Publisher affiliate status re-checked at the same time: still none active.

  4. Rename Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

Renamed to Devin Desktop following Cognition's acquisition. Pricing unchanged; we still file it under Windsurf, the more-searched name.

July 2026

4 changes
  1. Price Windsurf (Devin Desktop) ↑ 33%

Pro rose from $15/mo to $20/mo, and Teams from $30 to $40/user/mo.

  2. Plans Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

Free tier changed from a 25-credit monthly allowance to a daily quota, and a $200/mo Max tier appeared.

  3. Price GitHub Copilot ↑ 95%

Pro+ rose from $20/mo to $39/mo. Pro held at $10/mo.

  4. Now tracked Zed

Zed added to tracking — Personal free, Pro $10/mo, Business $30/seat/mo.

How this tracker works

Only what we checked

Every entry is something we verified against the vendor's own page, dated the day we saw it. We don't republish announcements we didn't witness, and we don't backfill from vendor changelogs to look busier.

Nothing is a result

A month where all 12 held steady gets recorded as exactly that. A tracker that only speaks up when something happened can't tell you the difference between a quiet market and an abandoned page.

Where it starts

The record opens in July 2026, not at launch. Our first days of data include us correcting our own starting figures, and publishing those as market movement would be inventing a story. More on how we work.

Get told when a price changes

We re-check what all 12 tools cost against each vendor's own pricing page. When something moves — a price, a free tier, a limit — you get an email. When nothing moves, you get nothing.
