Cody is enterprise-only since 23 July 2025, so for most readers this is not a live choice — it is a migration. What Zed costs (Free), what it does differently, and whether it is the right replacement.

Cody is enterprise-only since 23 July 2025. Sourcegraph discontinued Cody Free and Cody Pro. New signups stopped on 25 June 2025 and access ended on 23 July 2025; individual developers were pointed at Amp instead. Cody continues for Enterprise customers only. Vendor points new users to Amp. Vendor’s own announcement.
We track 11 AI coding tools and re-check every price against the vendor’s own pricing page. Where we have not tested something ourselves, we say so.

What has changed recently
- Cody, 6 September 2026 — Sourcegraph now publishes a contract floor where it previously showed no number: the Enterprise plan reads “Starting at $16K” minimum. Still enterprise-only — no individual tier exists at any price.

The bottom line
This is not really a comparison any more. Cody is enterprise-only since 23 July 2025, so unless you already have access, Zed at Free is the only one of the two you can actually start with. We keep this page because “what happened to it and what do I use instead” is a real question.
